COMPLICATIONS DURING DOG LABOR
Pregnancy and childbirth in animals are serious and demanding processes. And although the gestation period for dogs is only 57–72 days, there are still risk factors that require attention.
☝️The first thing a caring owner needs to know is the duration of the dog’s pregnancy. Ideally, this is determined through appropriate testing. There is an important list of pre-birth signs that should serve as a guide: 📍a drop in body temperature (36–36.5°C); 📍color of the mother’s vaginal discharge (clear or straw-colored) 📍interval between the birth of puppies (normally 15 to 40 minutes). Complications are possible during labor, caused by: 🔶abnormal fetal position 🔶narrow pelvis of the mother 🔶fetal abnormalities 🔶stillbirth, which obstructs the passage of other puppies. If, during your pet’s labor, you notice a deviation from at least one of the signs of a normal birth, you must IMMEDIATELY contact a veterinarian to save the life of your beloved pet and her puppies! 🗯Don’t delay or waste time! And during pregnancy, visit a veterinarian at least a few times to ensure the well-being of the expectant mother and her puppies.
