What a first-time puppy owner needs to know

Have you just brought home a puppy? Congratulations! There is a lot of joy, new habits and, of course, responsibility ahead. To ensure that your little friend grows up healthy and happy, it is important to take care of proper care, nutrition, and veterinary support from the very beginning.

Here are the key things every new puppy owner should know.

1. The first thing you should do is make an appointment with a veterinarian

Even if your puppy looks healthy, a vet checkup is a must. We will check

  • general state of health

  • the presence of birth defects,

  • parasites (worms, fleas),

  • condition of teeth, eyes, and skin.

You will also receive an individualized schedule of vaccinations and treatments - everything is clearly organized by week and without confusion.

2. Vaccination - protection against dangerous diseases

Many diseases, unfortunately, still occur in Ukraine, and they are dangerous for the life of the animal. The first vaccinations are usually given at 6-8 weeks of age, followed by revaccinations.

We use modern vaccines that protect against:

  • parvovirus,

  • rinderpest,

  • leptospirosis,

  • hepatitis,

  • rabies (from 12 weeks of age).

Until fully vaccinated, you should not walk in public places or come into contact with other animals.

3. Worms and fleas - treatments start early

Even a small puppy can already have parasites, which is detrimental to health and development.
Deworming is carried out before each vaccination, as well as regularly throughout life. It is also important to treat for fleas and ticks - we will choose a safe product according to age and weight.

4. Nutrition is the foundation of health

Puppies grow quickly and need a specialized diet. Options:

  • Industrial food (dry or wet) - choose only premium or super premium, labeled "puppy".

  • Natural food - requires balance, supplements, always after consulting a veterinarian.

Do not give:

  • milk, sausages, sweets, bones (especially cooked ones), leftovers from the table.

5. Toilet training, leash training, and socialization

Be prepared for the fact that housebreaking is a process and requires patience. Try not to scold your puppy, but reward him for his successes. Also, gradually introduce him to:

  • the collar/harness,

  • other people and animals (after vaccinations),

  • basic commands.

6. Home security

Having a puppy at home is like having a child. Check it out:

  • Is there no access to cables, chemicals, medications?

  • Are small objects that could be swallowed removed?

  • Is there a cozy place to sleep and rest?

7. Passport and chipping

During the first visit to the clinic, we will issue a veterinary passport, where the entire health history will be recorded.
Microchipping is also recommended - it is the only reliable way to identify an animal in case of loss.

And most importantly - love and care ❤️

The puppy will grow up quickly, and soon you won't remember how you did without it. Give it clear rules, a stable routine, tenderness and care, and you'll have a loyal friend for years to come.
